A Gunn Effect Local Oscillator Designed for a Military Radio Relay Set.

Abstract

The report gives details of design, construction and performance of an 8GHz Gunn local oscillator for a Military radio relay receiver. The complete unit occupies a volume bounded by approximately 2 inch x 1-1/4 inch x 1-1/4, weighs 9 oz and, because of its rugged construction, is particularly suited for a military environment. The unit is provided with fine mechanical tuning to cover the band 8025 - 8225 MHz and also electronic tuning over about 10 MHz for AFC purposes. The RF output is 5 mW. Problems associated with frequency stability dependent on temperature change, are also discussed. (Author)
