Nonstationary Heat and Mass Exchange in the Area,

Abstract

The study of non-steady-state heat or mass transfer in the region of the forward stagnation point has great significance. As the results of experimental investigation of transverse flow around a cylinder show, the flow pattern in the rear zone -- namely in the neighborhood of the rear stagnation point over a certain range of Re -- is analogous to the flow in the region of the forward stagnation point. The author considers a round cylinder surrounded by a steady liquid flow field. Heat and mass transfer to the cylinder are described by equations. Two cases are of interest: (1) concentration (or temperature) at the surface of the cylinder varies according to some arbitrary function; (2) concentration (or temperature) change occurs discontinuously.
