Domestic Action Through Civil Affairs. A Case Study.

Abstract

Guiding the city's poor to welfare services, surveying playground sites for rehabilitation, registering voters and planning elderly housing are some of the projects undertaken during the past training year by the Domestic Action Team of the 357th Civil Affairs Area (B) of Boston, Massachusetts. The opportunity for an Army Reserve Unit to perform these services, which so closely coincide with a civil affairs unit's mission, was presented when one team served in the city's 'Little City Halls' - small ombudsman offices located in various sections of the city and serving as coordination centers for the citizens seeking governmental services.
