The Feasibility of an All-Voluntary Military Establishment.

Abstract

The essay investigates the possibility of creating an all volunteer United States military establishment; examines whether such a force is desirable from the standpoint of its effects on national security, domestic problems, and the military establishment itself---and proposes a method for creating such a volunteer force. It concludes that the all-volunteer force is feasible and desirable provided the country is willing to assume the additional costs necessary to influence the choice of a service career. (Author)
