The Future of SEATO (Southeast Asia Treaty Organization).

Abstract

A basic question is what lies ahead during the next decade for the SEATO. The study examined significant events leading up to the formation of the alliance, principle objectives, and the impact of these factors on its accomplishments. The major recent events and power structure evolving in this area were examined with particular interest on their potential impact on the alliance. Current strengths and weaknesses were analyzed, in the idea that the future of SEATO will depend largely on external events which occur during the next few years. Balance of power, social and economic progress, influence exerted by the major powers, and American resolve are deemed most important. (Modified author abstract)
