The Future of US Bases in the Philippines.

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to estimate the validity of the existing base rights agreement of the United States in the Philippine Islands. To so do, a quick look at the history of the Philippines, emphasizing US-Philippine relationships, the country as a whole, and its major problems was taken. The effect of the aforementioned upon the US-Philippine base rights agreement was analyzed, and the life expectancy of that agreement was prognosticated. It is the conclusion of the author that although the costs to the United States to maintain its bases in the Philippines will increase significantly, those bases are relatively secure for the term of the existing agreement.
