A Computer Program for Simulating Nuclear Blast Loading Profiles for Closed and Open Element Structures.

Abstract

The report presents the first stages in designing a computer program to simulate nuclear blast loading on closed box and open element structures such as might be found in fire control shelters, radar antennas, and other structures of various systems. The report is a product of much research into nuclear blast simulation. Fundamentally, the problem was to take a typical structure and, through computer simulation, load it with a shock wave whose characteristics could be modeled mathematically. The program calculates the pressure and thermal loading profiles for a variety of typical aerospace structures. As a flexible tool, this program has amalgamated a variety of data into a compact unit which will serve as a useful device to the designer who is interested in failure criteria. The report contains the computer program, identification of the procedures for simulation, and other information required to use this blast and thermal loading program. (Author)
