Isolationism - The Second Time Around.

Abstract

The question discussed is whether the circumstances in the United States today are sufficiently similar to those following World War 2 to indicate a return to isolationism. Examined are Congressional actions, public opinion and economic conditions after both World Wars. Data was gathered from newspapers and various books dealing with national defense pictures. Many points of similarity between the two periods are noted including a desire to expend greater amounts on domestic needs, the pressures for disarmament, and the growing disenchantment with the munitions industry. Some conclusions are drawn. (Modified author abstract)
