Mobilization Movement Planning.

Abstract

Our National strategy directs that our Reserve Components be assigned a major role in the military plans of our country. This essay addresses the problem of planning for movement to the mobilization station as Reserve units start their transition from Reserve to Active status. It points up the importance of this first step in any planned expansion of our Active forces using the Reserve Components. It also points up the great gap that exists between the Department of Defense plans for mobilization of the Reserve Components in time of emergency, and the actual capability of these units to reach their mobilization stations in a time frame that will permit them to fulfill their part in the Defense Department's plans. The essay includes recommendations to improve the present requirements for preparation and review of unit movement plans and thereby close the existing time and planning gap.
