Description of the Equipment and Measurement Techniques for the Air Force Weapons Laboratory Multiple-Bounce Reflectometer.

Abstract

Presented is a detailed description of the operation of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory (AFWL) reflectometer and the correct procedure in the measurement technique of mirror reflectivity on this instrument. In addition, a theoretical discussion is presented explaining the principles behind a multiple-bounce reflectometer and how the data are reduced to yield the reflectivity for a sample mirror. A data presentation which compares measurements on the AFWL reflectometer to measurements on other devices for the same mirrors shows that a good understanding of the operation of the equipment and the proper completion of the measurement techniques will yield measurements of the reflectivities of plane and concave spherical mirrors with an absolute accuracy of 0.001 and a demonstrated precision of 0.0003.
