Construction of Fibrous Reinforced Concrete Overlay Test Slabs, Tampa International Airport, Florida.

Abstract

The report describes the planning and construction of two fibrous reinforced concrete overlay test sections at TIA. The test sections included 4- and 6-in.-thick overlays located on a currently used parallel taxiway to one of the primary N-S runways. The test sections were inspected after about one month's traffic, and the condition of the overlays is described herein. Conclusions based on the construction of the test section indicate that fibrous reinforced concrete can be produced in a central mix plant and placed with a slip-form paver. Procedures and equipment for bulk handling of the fibers will have to be developed.
