Electrical Cable Splicing.

Abstract

The objective was to design and evaluate an in-line splice for multiple conductor cable. Comparison was made of commercial types of heat shrinkable tubing and the selected type was modified polyolefin. The splice consists of joining individual conductors by means of crimp-type tubular metal connectors. The connectors were subsequently insulated with thin-wall heat shrinkable tubing. Thick-wall tubing was used to cover splice area and join the outer jacket. Short lengths of similar thick-wall tubing with an interior coating of elastomer sealant were used to effect a water-tight seal at the ends of the jacket splice. (Modified author abstract)
