Climatology of Instantaneous Precipitation Rates.

Abstract

Nearly instantaneous precipitation rates have been calculated for existing data from several locations and for records collected specifically for this project. Point frequencies of occurrence of 1-minute rates have been derived and are tabulated by months for one year of data from Preston and Reading, England; for two years of data from Paris, France; and for three years of data from Urbana, Illinois. Frequencies of 4-minute rates are tabulated for a year of data each from Albuquerque, New Mexico; Bismarck, North Dakota; Seattle, Washington; Bet Dagan, Israel; Koblenz, Germany; and Freiburg, Germany. Four-minute frequencies for two years of data from Naha, Okinawa, are tabulated. Frequencies of 2-minute average rates along lines have been tabulated for lines of raingages up to 39 miles in length in central Illinois. The frequencies of occurrence of maximum rates along these lines are also included. (Modified author abstract)
