A Re-examination of the Juncture between the Sonic Line and a Shock in Flows with M < 1.

Abstract

A possibility that the flow field at the juncture of the sonic line and a shock in flows with high subsonic Mach numbers can be described by a similarity solution is examined in detail. For physical reasons singularities propagating in the supersonic region towards the point of junction are excluded. A heuristic argument is made showing why similarity solutions are unlikely. The essential features of flow patterns computed by Nocilla are described. (Modified author abstract)
