Manpower Development Policies--The United States Employment Service in Transition.

Abstract

The Employment Service has become a vital part of the national manpower development program, but knowledge of the Service is essential if national manpower policies are to be fully understood. Data were gathered from literature research and informal discussions with Department of Labor personnel in Washington, D.C. The Employment Service is examined from a historical viewpoint, and current operations, including strengths and weaknesses, are scrutinized. It is concluded that positive corrective action should be taken by the federal government in several areas.
