The Military Executive: The Trend of the 80's.

Abstract

Preparation for the complexities of tasks facing the army officer of the 1980's involves the opportunities, challenges and problems of the past compared to the fast moving technological and sociological change of the present. Data were fathered on military executive requirements from a literature search, with emphasis on contemporary studies of leadership and interdisciplinary behavioral concepts. The increased utilization of the military as a focus for social change, in terms of anti-establishment youth, racial unrest, drugs and alcohol, protest, and moral degradation, requires a realistic approach to sound contemporary action. It is concluded that the challenge of the changing environment will continue to impact upon the basic philosophy of mission accomplishment.
