The Need for International Cooperation in Providing Economic Assistance to the Underdeveloped Nations.

Abstract

The monograph presents the widening gap in affluence and social well-being between the 'have' and 'have-not' nations as the gravest threat to international order. The need for international cooperation in providing economic assistance to the underdeveloped nations of the world is discussed within the framework of past successes and failures obtained through library research. Most of the economic assistance programs past and present are seen as bilateral, often competing, and wasteful. It is concluded that a viable multilateral economic assistance program can be established through the World Bank Group, financed in part, through special taxation of the multinational corporations.
