On Bayesian Assessments of Coherent Systems.

Abstract

The work applies statistical decision theory to the reliability assessment of a multi-component system. The concepts of prior and posterior distributions basic to the Bayesian statistical framework are applied. Techniques are developed for assessing the reliability of coherent system when a prior distribution is assigned to the system reliability and when test data are available on either the components, the system, or both the components and the system. Using attribute or variables test data on the components and the system, the posterior distribution of system reliability under specified prior distributions of system reliability is obtained for series or parallel systems of independent components. For systems composed of series connections of independent components in parallel, only the moments of the posterior distribution of system reliability are obtained. (Modified author abstract)
