Investigation of the Kinematic and Dynamic Characteristics in the Wake behind a Flat Plate Placed Normal to a Parallel Unbounded Flow.

Abstract

The kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the wake fully developed turbulent flow behind a flat plate placed normal to an approaching uniform flow are examined. The investigation was carried out by the motion-picture flow visualization method, by capacitance sensors to measure the dynamic pressure fluctuations, and by thermoanemometers to measure the velocity fluctuations. The relationship between the average and fluctuation kinematic and dynamic characteristics is defined in dimensionless form, and an approximate computational formula is derived.
