A Bottom Gravity Survey of Carmel Bay, California.

Abstract

Bottom gravity data was obtained on 55 stations down to the 50 fathoms depth contour to produce the first gravity anomaly charts of Carmel Bay. The techniques of data collection and reduction are discussed. No evidence was found for the fault between Pescadero Point and Abalone Point proposed by Bowen. A layer of sediments over 500 meters thick, probably of the Paleocene Carmelo series, is indicated extending seaward from Carmel Beach, partially filling the secondary canyon. A new fault is proposed along the axis of the Carmel submarine canyon. (Author)
