Interest Patterns and Leadership Styles of Successful U S Army Officers.

Abstract

The paper reports the findings of a study which was made to measure the interests and leadership styles of some senior, male Army officers. Army officers from the US Army War College Class of '73 scored significantly higher than the norms on all parts of a modified Officer Evaluation Battery (OEB). Results indicated that 25 percent of the Army officers in the Class of '73 are 'tops' in both Combat Leadership and Technical-Managerial Leadership, however, there seems to be a low positive correlation between these two leadership styles. Eighteen percent of the sample would prefer that their assignment after the Army War College not be a command. It is recommended that the OEB be given to all students at the Reserve Components.
