Synthetic Verification Matrices--1,

Abstract

Two approximations for the verification matrix of a subjective weather forecast are compared. Neither requires more information than the climatological frequencies of the forecast categories and the skill score of the forecast. The more accurate synthesis yields an RMS error of less than 0.01 for the 16 elements of a 4-category aviation terminal forecast. (Author)
