A Separable Programming Approach to Allocating Manpower for the California Highway Patrol.

Abstract

The paper presents a mathematical approach to formulating a problem in the allocation of manpower for the Monterey County Area of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The technique employed is to formulate the manpower allocation problem of the CHP as a nonlinear programming problem. The problem turns out to be separable, and the Mathematical Programming System/360 for the IBM 360 computer is subsequently used. This project was undertaken with the cooperation of the CHP.
