Hybrid Digital Analog Tropo System.

Abstract

RESPONSE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DEMODULATOR. This model is used to describe the theory of operation of the modulation technique and also to provide back-to-back and over-the-air performance estimates. Performance estimates are provided for non, dual, and quad diversity, various loading parameters of FDM/FM systems for various system configurations, including 64 Kbps digital rate together with 24 to 600 analog voice channels. A model for the variability of over-the-air multipath delay spread is also derived and used to predict the time availability of various grades of service. The design and construction of an experimental model of the hybrid modulation technique is described. Both back-to-back and over-the-air test programs and test results are described. The experimental results are compared to the theoretical prediction for various system configurations with good agreement. (Author)
