Simplifying Transformations for Multiply--Symmetric Systems that are Asymmetrically Loaded.

Abstract

Simple orthogonal and unitary transformations are given, which transform an n-fold, linear symmetric system into n independent systems of (1/n)th the size. This affords substantial savings in computational time and storage even if the system is asymmetrically loaded. These transformations are advantageous even if the system is only partly symmetric. The types of symmetry treated include cyclic, star, translational, and recursive symmetry. It is proved that the transformations work, and operational counts are derived for the solution of linear equations and the computation of eigen-systems. (Author)
