Improvement in the Method of Tests with Division of the Process of Fatigue Failure into Stages of Macrodamage and Final Failure,

Abstract

A unit was created for fatigue tests with observation for the moment of appearance of the first macrocrack with the use of the stroboscopic effect of illumination of a rotating sample with an ISSh-15 flash lamp. Fatigue curves of macrodamageability and final failure were obtained for notched samples of titanium alloy VT-8. The coefficient of stability of notched samples comprises a value of 0.6 for a mean probability of failure with a level of variable nominal stresses of 28 kgf/sq mm.
