Some Organizational Concepts FOR Army Research and Development.

Abstract

The basic consideration in the paper is whether some of the contemporary organizational concepts in civilian business and industry have application to Army Research and Development. Information on the organizational concepts was derived from a literature research involving primarily current business periodicals and books. The application of organizational theory is assessed as a continuous process in Army R and D. New organizational approaches are more likely to be evaluated empirically before application. Civilian organizational experiences in project management, the matrix, the unstructured organization, the renewal stimulator, and the dual hierarchy are assessed and some applications of these concepts to Army R and D are considered. The paper concludes with a view on the significance of managing change. (Author)
