High Pressure Properties of U12n.05 and U12t.02 Tuffs, Nevada Test Site.

Abstract

Laboratory tests on NX size cores from the U12n.05 and U12t.02 tunnels, Nevada Test Site, are presented. Special care has been taken to obtain specimens, particularly preserve the moisture content, so that laboratory tests will represent the in-situ response. Site sampling was extensive for each location so that an adequate site characterization could be obtained. Emphasis was placed on obtaining the pressure-volume change response up to multi-kilobar pressures. Each site represented a nearly saturated ash fall tuff, except for a region about 200-300 feet from the working point in the U12t.02 tunnel. In this region at least selected beds were 'less' saturated, possibly due to water drained away by a fault. (Author)
