Data Analysis in the PILER System.

Abstract

The PILER System is an automatic translating system which creates an operational program for a target computer, using a program operable on a source computer for problem definition. Data formats are a vital part of the program translation; a change in the format of data affects the instructions which access or operate on the data. The PILER System allows a great deal of user direction to control the translation. The user may specify some or all of the data formats to be used in the translated computer program. For data formats not controlled by the user, the PILER will generate the formats required for operating efficiency in the target computer environment. The Analyzer phase of the PILER System performs the data analysis to describe the data as used in the source computer environment. It prints the data description along with a flow chart of the subject program, using the original data names, if provided.
