A Theory of the Dynamic Structure Factor in Simple Liquids. I.

Abstract

A theory of the 'Dynamic Structure Factor' S(k, omega) is presented for a classical liquid. A perturbation scheme is developed for both the coherent and incoherent dynamic structure factors in a high effective frequency regime. The expansion scheme converges for soft-core interaction potentials as long as omega(eff) is much greater than a characteristic frequency omega of the liquid. The expansion scheme is valid for an arbitrary density of the liquid. Unlike the conventional high frequency expansion this theory is valid even for small omega as long as the momentum transfer k is large. (Modified author abstract)
