E-Beam HCl Laser

Abstract

The feasibility of producing stimulated in the 3-5 wavelength band by exciting hydrogen chloride vibrational levels by electron impact is being investigated theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical interpretation of available transport data predicts large vibrational excitation rates. A high current density electron gun capable of sustaining a high electron density discharge has been developed and is described. The pulsed hydrogen chloride laser experiments in progress are also described.
