A Flexible Hardwired Fast Fourier Transform Digital Processor

Abstract

NAL PROCESSING, FOURIER TRANSFORMATION, SPECTRUM ANALYSIS, *DIGITAL FILTERS, FAST FOURIER TRANSFORMA hardwired digital processor based on the Cooley-Tukey algorithm is presented. A laboratory prototype has been built with two modes of operation. As a cascade fast Fourier transformer, it can simultaneously calculate transforms of two independent, continuous data streams at word rates in excess of 3 MHz. As a nonrecursive digital filter, it can produce filter impulse responses of up to 32 points. The difital filter also operates from data source with word rates exceeding 3 MHz. The processor has been integrated into a system with other signal processing components including a small general purpose computer. Laboratory demonstration of the processing system as a spectrum analyzer and as an adaptive filter for distortion correction is discussed.
