Analysis of Accuracy of Computation of the Harmonic Gravity Anomaly Coefficients (Analiz Tochnosti Vychisleniya Garmonicheskikh Koeffitsientov Anomalii sily Tyazhesti),

Abstract

The formula describing the basic features of the earth's gravity field is presented in the form of an expansion in spherical functions. The harmonic coefficients of this series are determined from smoothed gravity anomaly values. With a complete gravimetric coverage the accuracy of determination of the harmonic coefficients is dependent only on the accuracy of the numerical method used, while with an incomplete study it depends also on the degree of the errors in determining the values of the smoothed anomalies according to the data available in the area of smoothing. The paper evaluates the effect of these factors on the accuracy of determination of harmonic coefficients by comparing the initial formulas for the computation of the harmonic coefficients of the smoothed and unsmoothed gravity anomalies.
