En Route Air Traffic Control Scenarios for the Quiet Short-Haul Air Transportation System.

Abstract

The report describes the analysis done to define the en route ATC implications of an improved short-haul air transportation system for the time period of 1976 to 1980. As the short-haul system for this time period has not been defined in detail, city origin/destination pairs were not available, and in lieu of such information, a scenario approach was taken utilizing the city pairs of Washington, D. C. to New York, Philadelphia to Boston, and Houston, Texas to Memphis, Tennessee to cover a wide range of traffic densities and en route conditions. The New York to Washington scenario was chosen to stress the en route system; and the others to attempt to eliminate any bias that may have been imposed by the high density route.
