Documentation of Hand Function: A Comparative Analysis of Direct Electrostatic Systems with Standard Clinical Procedures.
Abstract
Office copying equipment is available which produces adequate copy for documenting hand disability and deformity for such medical uses as patient chart progress reports, ward rounds, physical evaluation board review, re-evaluation procedures, patient conferences and clinical research. Those who evaluated both the photocopy documentation and the standard methods found the photocopies to be more objective and more easily comprehended. This was particularly true for range of motion, sensory involvement, topography and functional use. The photocopy is not adequate for documenting muscle strengths; these must be noted on the photocopy. It is also important to note grip strength, Moberg manipulation test times and active and passive motion. If all of this information is included, the photocopies can be used in lieu of any written progress report or numerical description. (Modified author abstract)
