Theoretical Study of Optical Pulse Propagation through Resonant Media.

Abstract

The report presents the results of theoretical studies of various aspects of ultra-short pulse propagation. The main areas of progress were in (1) determining the stability properties of distortionless fields, (2) developing understanding of several of the processes contributing to the frequency modulation of ultra-short pulses, viz. longitudinal and transverse diffraction, non-resonant non-linearities, local field effects, Stark shifts, (3) numerical studies of the transverse behavior of ultra-shore pulses.
