Wave Amplification and the Principle of Conservation of Wave Action.

Abstract

Using the conservation of wave action, the author has studied the interrelationship of the electric field strength and the instantaneous frequency of an electromagnetic wave propagating in a dielectric which varies slowly with position and time. The possibility of wave amplification in such dielectrics is discussed and illustrated with examples. (Modified author abstract)
