Vertical Area Navigation System Analysis.

Abstract

The report describes the results of a comprehensive analysis and digital computer simulation of the operational and performance aspects of vertical area navigation (VNAV) systems. A detailed sensitivity analysis was performed relating each of the various error elements of various levels of VNAV system complexity and cost to the overall system use accuracy figures contained in FAA Advisory Circular 90-45, and RTCA Minimum Operational Characteristics DO-140 and DO-152. A parallel investigation was made of the procedural and operational impacts of several categories of user aircraft operating under a variety of external environmental conditions. (Author)
