Abstract

The need for a light deflector has become more pressing since the advent of lasers. Such applications as optical memories, a line scan illuminator, or search and track optical radar require a beam steering device. The report evaluates the prospects of a stripe domain light deflector using such materials as bismuth-doped yttrium iron garnet (Bi: YIG), iron-chromium trihalides, and iron cobalt nickel borates for the green 5145 A Argon line. Further, a study to identify a material suitable for ultraviolet radiation is conducted.
