Improvement of the Seismic Apparatus for Tsunami Warning Systems (Usovershenstvovanie Seismicheskoi Apparatury dlya Slubzhy Preduprezhdeniya o Tsunami),

Abstract

A vertical seismograph has been located in the laboratory of Earth Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow, used for experimental recording. Its amplification was increased from 70 to 400. All during this time, the seismograph was used to record a great many remote earthquakes, the most powerful of which was the earthquake of 4 February 1965 in the Aleutian Islands, which produced a considerable tsunami.
