USAFETAC Refractive Index Gradient Summaries.

Abstract

RIES.Technical note,Davis,Allen R. ;Wagner,Richard C. ;USAFETAC-TN-73-4(*atmospheric refraction, atmospheric sounding), refractive index, radio wavesUpper-air soundings are used to compute refractive-index gradients in the lower atmosphere which cause normal and anomalous propagation of radio waves. This Technical Note describes the computer-produced summaries of these gradients. Gradients are described by height of base and thickness for each of the four categories: sub-refractive, normal, super-refractive, and trapping. Tables also describe gradients by height of base in discrete intervals, and monthly distributions of the minimum gradient for each sounding. (Author)
