Tactical Multi-Tuned Preselector.

Abstract

A study was made primarily of nonreciprocal YIG filter preselectors for the purpose of providing a suitable front-end for frequency-selective communications receivers. It was shown that fixed-tuned miniaturized nonreciprocal YIG preselectors can be arranged in a YIG filter bank (multi-channel) configuration with narrow bandwidths, low insertion loss, high directivity, nanosecond switching, and frequency-hopping rates in the MHz range. Accurate mathematical models were developed for analyzing the YIG preselector and these were utilized in a computer design program for the reciprocal and tri-loop filter configurations. Feasibility of achieving bandwidths within the 0.1 to 50 MHz range with low insertion loss was demonstrated. (Modified author abstract)
