Abstract
ECTILES, BALLISTICS), PROJECTILE TRAJECTORIES, FIRING TESTS(ORDNANCE), SCATTERING, TOLERANCES(MECHANICS), RANGE TABLES, STATISTICAL DISTRIBUTIONSM-437 CARTRIDGES(175-MM), M-437A2 CARTRIDGES(175-MM)Twenty-five 'acceptable' shells from SOP Lot 12-18, selected to match the statistical distributions of static and dynamic imbalances of the entire lot, and twenty-five of the 'worst' (highest weighted sum of static and dynamic imbalances) of the rejected shell from Gateway were fired at acceptance firing conditions. Each shell was randomly oriented in the breech, the two groups were fired alternately, and the impact point of each was recorded. An analytical and statistical study of the effect of static and dynamic imbalance on dispersion was conducted. The results of these studies are discussed in the report. (Modified author abstract)
