Providing Integrated Engineer Resources for the Seventies (PIERS) - Executive Summary.

Abstract

The PIERS study portrays the engineering environment of the 1970's in terms of the enemy threat, US strategy, Army operational techniques, materiel development, and expected resource constraints. Against this background, the engineer system within a theater of operations has been analyzed. All doctrinal, organizational, and materiel aspects of engineer combat, combat support, and service support missions are addressed. Primary attention is focused on European theater demands, but worldwide engineer responsibilities have also been considered. Proposed solutions are within reasonable bounds of asset constraints for the 1970's.
