Functional Specialization, Culture, and Preference for Participative Management.

Abstract

Six hundred twenty-seven managers representing six cultures completed an exercise in which three hypotheses were evaluated: Is participative management universally preferred as a management style. Could earlier work indicating that functional specialization of American managers was a significant predictor of decision-making style be generalized to other cultures. Are different qualities necessary for success as a top manager, middle manager, and first-line foreman by managers from different cultures. (Modified author abstract)
