Mass, Volume, Center of Mass and Mass Moment of Inertia of Head and Head and Neck of the Human Body

Abstract

The mass, volume, center of mass and mass moment of inertia of the head and neck and the head were determined for twenty human male cadavers. Anthropometric values and anatomic landmarks were obtained by external measurements and by use of x-ray procedures. The procedures used to determine the above measurements are described. Uniform planes for the separation of the head and neck from the torso and separation of the head from the neck were established and are described in detail. The values of the physical properties of the head and neck and the head are tabulated and compared to data reported in previous studies.
