The Effects of Meso-Scale and Small-Scale Interactions on Global Climate
Abstract
The results reported are part of a continuing study to improve numerical models for meso-scale and small-scale effects which influence global weather and its modification. The two major areas being studied are the effects of mountain ranges on momentum transfer, and the transient interaction of solar radiation with the earth's atmosphere. The results of the research on the solar radiation include several calculations and comparisons with experimental data of heat fluxes in the atmosphere. The major tasks of the orographic study have been to: (1) develop a three-dimensional transient Boussinesq code, (2) continue development and check out of the linear steady state codes, and (3) continue to test the HAIFA codes and make runs using real topography data.
