Safety Hazard and Hazard Evaluation Report for Automatic Production System for Radioluminous Sources -Preliminary Hazard Analysis.

Abstract

The report provides preliminary hazard analysis information for an automatic production system for gaseous radioluminous sources. Primary emphasis is given to hazards associated with the manufacture of tritium self-luminous sources. The important physical, chemical, and radiological characteristics of tritium are included. A radiological study of the routine manufacturing operations of the facility, and of extraordinary incidents is presented. A maximum credible accident, in which the entire inventory of tritium is released in a single incident, is considered. Safety design criteria used to control these hazards are identified. No operational procedures have been identified which could cause even moderate restrictions to facility operations. Radiological hazards are minimized due to safety design criteria. (Author)
