The Computation of Tides and Currents in Estuaries and Canals. Appendix A: A User's Manual,

Abstract

The User's Manual is issued as an appendix to Technical Bulletin No. 16 (AD-756 136). The mathematical model consists of the one-dimensional continuity and momentum equations applicable to variable area estuaries, embayments, or sea-level canals. The equations are solved simultaneously by means of an explicit finite-difference scheme to yield values of tidal elevation and discharge along the longitudinal axis of the waterway. Three separate computer programs for closed-end estuaries, open-end estuaries, and sea-level canals and embayments were contained in Technical Bulletin No. 16. In this manual the three original programs have been modified and combined into a single computer program in which the user specifies the boundary conditions appropriate to the type of estuary, embayment, or canal under consideration. The general structure of the computer program is described and detailed instructions are given for input data and format.
