The Development of Techniques for Operational Exploitation of Satellite Observed Sounding Data for Resolution of Satellite Observed Sounding Data for Resolution of Atmospheric Thermal-Structure Variabilities.

Abstract

The development of capabilities has continued with refinements, improvements and extensions, all aimed at the exploitation of satellite observed radiances for increased resolution of atmospheric thermal structure. Following these developments a summary of the information retrieval capabilities and a demonstration based on simulated data are given. The generalization of the vertical-structure model is required for fuller exploitation of channel resolution capabilities for the upper atmosphere. The basic model is covered in detail in the reports of Tasks One and Two. Only the generalization is developed here.
